McIntyre Cemetery

It was a beautiful autumn day! Lo D'Arpini, Mike Van Wasshnova, Sandy Rekuc, Jim and Loretta Dunham met at the cemetery to photograph markers around 1pm. We managed to walk the entire cemetery and photograph all the markers in about 2 hours, even finding a few stones that weren't transcribed in 1980. One of these was a Civil War soldier!

Daniel Salyer has a military marker- albeit a very worn one, in the back of McIntyre Cemetery. Daniel's bio appears on page 356 of the new Civil War book, if you wish to update your copy. He DOES have a marker and it is in in McIntyre Cemetery, Raisinville Twp. He was in Co D, 18th MI Infantry in case you can't read the marker. He now has a memorial on Find A Grave, as well.

We used mirrors and a flashlight to cast shadows on the tombstones (many were in complete shade under a canopy of pine trees) to help us decipher the worn transcriptions. Many of these folks have memorials on Find A Grave- we are adding photos to these memorials and will create new memorials where needed. Our plan is to have all burials in McIntyre listed on Find A Grave with a clear photo of the marker.

We recently heard from a descendant of Daniel Salyer. He was thrilled that we had located his ancestor's marker in McIntyre Cemetery and traveled to Monroe County to visit his gravesite.

This is just one of the great projects our society has been working on these past nearly 50 years.

McIntyre Cemetery is located on Blue Bush Road in Raisinville Twp. The sign has McIntyre, but the cemetery has been called Coppernoll, Sand Pit, Blue Bush or Sand Hill Cemetery in the past.
