GSMC is partnering with the Monroe County Historical Museum to clean up and document the tombstones in Memorial Place Cemetery (on Monroe Street between 6^th and 7^th Streets) on Saturday June 8^th.  Dave Carter, a tombstone preservation and restoration expert, will be on hand to show us the proper way to clean a tombstone without damaging it.  If you are interested in helping clean up Memorial Place, contact Andy Clark.  We need a list of volunteers to provide to the city.  We’ll meet at the cemetery on Saturday for our short training session and begin work on unburying (the grass has grown over them) the stones so they can be photographed and recorded.  This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the county, with stones dating from the 1830’s… let’s make sure the folks buried there are not forgotten and their graves are cared for properly.
