Exciting Developments in Ireland and Northern Ireland Online Research

The Irish Genealogical Society of Michigan will present “Exciting Developments in Ireland and Northern Ireland Online Research” on Jan. 18.

The guest speaker will be Richard Doherty of Troy.  Doherty will explore exciting, recent developments of strategic free and fee websites for genealogical research in Ireland’s 32 counties. Emphasis is placed on those with searchable databases and digital images of original records. Also included is a discussion of plans for new or enhanced Irish genealogy websites.

Doherty is a professional genealogist, lecturer and author with more than 40 years of experience. He has lectured on Irish genealogy since 1982 in the U.S., Canada and Ireland and is president of the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research, a past-president of the Irish Genealogical Society of Michigan and the Oakland County Genealogical Society. He also sits on the board of the Friends of the Burton Historical Collection. He has made 32 research trips to Ireland and is the director of Celtic Quest LLC, which organizes Ireland research trips.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 pm at the Gaelic League/Irish American Club in Detroit. The club is located at 2068 Michigan Ave. (two blocks west of Rosa Parks Boulevard). Fenced-in parking is available behind the building. There is no charge for this program, that is open to the public.
