A celebration for the future of the Monroe County Historical Museum will take place with an open house on Saturday, November 10th, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. “We are very pleased the voters of Monroe County passed the millage proposal for the future of their Monroe County Historical Museum,” Curator Chris Kull announced. “This is the day of the Holiday Parade and we could not think of a better time to show our appreciation to the community than when many folks will be downtown already and can take the time to stop in and check out their museum."
“There are many activities that day including the unveiling of the recently restored historical marker at the Kentucky Monument on South Monroe St.,” Ms. Kull said. This 1 p.m. event will recognize those veterans who fought in the Battle of the River Raisin here during the War of 1812. Among the participants at the unveiling will be General George Armstrong Custer, aka Steve Alexander. Following the marker unveiling, at about 2:30 p.m., Mr. Alexander will lead a tour of the Custer exhibit at the museum.
“This year marks the 40th year the museum has been housed in the old post office building,” Ms. Kull commented. “We invite everyone to come to the museum, tour the displays, and enjoy some refreshments. We will cut the cake at 2:30 p.m.”
The museum open house celebration is free and open to the public. For further information contact Chris Kull at 734-240-7787.
