On Saturday, February 22 a beginning genealogy talk will be presented by Lynn Reaume in connection with St. Mary’s Church’s 225th anniversary, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe Street, Monroe.
Ms. Reaume, one the Museum's staff, will present basics to compiling and researching your genealogy, with some explanation concerning researching Catholic ancestors.
The talk is part of the continuing celebration of the first Monroe County church, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception parish, originally named St. Anthony’s, or St. Antoine, on the River Raisin. The parish is celebrating it’s 225th year of faith, starting in October, 2013 and concluding in May, 2014.
The hobby of genealogy involves tracing an individual’s family tree, including a main bloodline (ancestors and their descendants) and family groups (parents and their children). Anyone interested in “climbing their family tree” is welcome to attend.
A second part of the talk will introduce researchers to specifically Catholic records and sources. Examples will be given, and blank forms available to get started. Monroe County catholic church records are available for viewing on microfilm at the Ellis branch of the Monroe County Library System, Research Department.
For questions, call the main Museum at 734 240 7780. The talk is free.
