The Monroe County Musuem Archives are the best kept secret of Monroe County!!!
  • Monroe County Museum, is located at 126 S. Monroe St, Monroe, MI 48161.  Within the Museum Archives on the second floor is a gold mine of Monroe County history, not only of the villages, townships, and county, but also for the families of Monroe County.  See the list in the menu on the left side of the page.   The Museum Archives have saved these precious copies just waiting for your review and to help you understand the lives of your Monroe County relatives.
  • But the best kept secret of the Museum Archive is their Obituary Collection.  File cabinet after file cabinet line the walls of the Archive with obituaries of over 100,000 Monroe County residents.  Obituaries date to the early 1830's from the county's many local newspapers.  To find if the Museum Archives has an obituary for your Monroe County relative, check out the Monroe County, MI Obit Index.  If you would like to get a copy of your Monroe County relatives obituary, call Lynn Reaume, Museum Archivist, at (734) 240-7787 and make an appointment to visit the Monroe County Museum Archives.
